The Bundestag has passed a new act on corporate due-diligence obligations for the prevention of human rights violations in the supply chain on July 16, 2021. The law covers broadly the followings items. The organization must ensure they are not dealing with such organization that violates this compliance and report these activities to authorities.
- HSE / Fair working conditions – Bodily integrity and health and safety at work with regular breaks
- Prevention of Child labour
- Prevention of any form of slavery or forced labour
- Sustainability – Environmentally related obligation
- Prohibition of dis-regarding the freedom of association including trade union
- Prohibition of unequal treatment of employees due to social origin, ethnic origin, health status, gender, etc
- Prohibition of withholding an adequate living wage
- Prohibition of causing any harmful soil change, water pollution, air pollution, or any other environmental issues.
- The prohibition of unlawful eviction and the prohibition of unlawful taking of land, water & forests affects the livelihood of a person
The objective of this solution is to ensure the following:
- Keep the buying organization compliant with the law and make someone responsible to review and report periodically.
- Ensure direct suppliers and sub-suppliers are compliant and they are not violating the law. In case of a violation, the business with such suppliers can be stopped and reported to the authorities.
